This program of music by Polish composers draws on a wide variety of influences near and far. Weinberg’s deep friendship with Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich looms large in his String Trio, along with echoes of Jewish, Gypsy, and Moldavian themes. Polish folk melodies and bucolic musical settings are also on the menu. The cornerstone of the evening, Szymanowski’s Mythes, presents three programmatic miniatures inspired by Greek mythology, with traces of French impressionism and the composer’s own travels in Sicily and North Africa.
House concerts are kindly hosted by members of the Anchorage community in their own homes. Venue address will be provided to patrons one week prior to the concert.
