String quartets by Beethoven and Mendelssohn
Beethoven makes a return appearance at this year’s festival with another monumental and expressive quartet from his late period. Mendelssohn’s second string quartet, written but a few months after Beethoven’s death, pays homage to the late composer. A song by Mendelssohn’s song unifies the program, further attesting to Beethoven’s inextricable and enduring influence on the art of chamber music.
