14th Season Festival Finale and Fundraiser: String Quartets by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Schnittke
Join us to close out the season with celebrated string quartets by Russian composers! A stalwart of the string quartet tradition, Shostakovich presents his drivingly cynical musical language in his seventh quartet. Schnittke’s poly-stylistic approach is on full display in his third string quartet, inspired by everything from Renaissance song to Beethoven’s Grosse Fuge (heard but three years ago at ACMF!) Tchaikovsky’s first string quartet concludes the evening, and our 14th summer of chamber music in Anchorage!
Dmitri SHOSTAKOVICH (1906 – 1975): String Quartet No. 7 in F-sharp minor, Op. 108 (1960)
Alfred SCHNITTKE (1934 – 1998): String Quartet No. 3 (1983)
Pyotr Ilyich TCHAIKOVSKY (1840 – 1893): String Quartet No. 1 in F major, Op. 11 (1871)
